The HIMS CODER is responsible for assigning ICD-9-CM (International Classification of Diseases 9th Revision Clinical Modification) codes to all inpatient records. The indexing of diseases and procedures allows the extensive requests for retrospective reviews of patient medical records by researchers and others. HIMS CODER is also responsible for compiling and reporting the official hospital patient utilization statistics.
